GFL: Ghost of Flicker Lights//
Tuesday, February 9, 2010 @ 11:27 PM

This started off when Geak was left alone in her work place. Everyone went out for deliveries and she was all alone... She IMed me, telling me about the weird things that happened during that period of time. I told her about the Ghost of Flicker lights; just something that I made up. The lone spirit that appears when people are left alone and would every now and then make the lights flicker and make you feel as if someone's watching you. I told her that there might be a tale behind all that flickering.
Flickers catches people's attention. It makes some feel a little insecure and others just plain scared. What if...it is all about a tragic Love Story that no one ever heard of-something so terrible that the he/she was bound to earth forever...never to reach to the heavens or fall to the burning depths of Tartarus. *laughs* Maybe, I let my imagination ran a little too far this time...but somehow I manage to convince myself that there really is a story, just unknown to us mere mortals.

You think I'm going to start off with Once upon a time? Who am I kidding... You caught me, which fairy tale do not start off with this?

Once upon a time, there lived a girl. She wasn't rich or was she poor. She may be prettier than the merchant's daughter but not the most beautiful in town. She was just thirteen when she and her mom moved into the Duke's manor. Her mom got a job as a governess for the Duke's fourteen year old daughter and was invited to stay there. Her dad was a lecturer at the university in town. He had a place there and didn't came home much, except every now and then, once in awhile. They decided that it would be a good idea for mother and daughter to move there-for convenience purpose.

Her first day there, the girl was so bored she went to explore the manor. Words seemed to fail her as she tried to describe how the manor was. Her eyes trailed upon the portraits that seem to grace the walls of every room, from the windows she could see the verdant meadows of the countryside...

" Hey."

She turn around. When she saw no one, she brushed it aside, thinking that her imagination played a trick on her. But the voice came again, this time a little louder and annoyed.

" If mom sent you to get me. You can forget about it. I'm not going to learn German and there's nothing she can do about it." This time when she turned, a boy, somewhat around her age stood there, brows furrowed, lips pursed.

She smiled. Finally, a playmate!

" Well, if you hate German that much, instead of sulking in your hiding place all day, why not come with me on my exploration of this magic castle." She stretched out a hand, offering it to him.

At first, he was skeptical and hesitant about joining her. There was this mischievous glint in her eyes that was edging him to dare take her hand. Of course he joined her or there would be no story to continue. They pretended to be prisoners who just escaped from their cells. They held hands all the way, never letting go as if afraid that the other party might disappear into thin air. He never had this much fun. He never laughed this much and for once...he felt happy.

The both of them played everyday or every other day, whenever he was free of his lessons or when she popped out of nowhere and whisk him away from his study room, burdened by the pile of homework he was assigned to do.

Three years passed and our hero grew up to be a fine gentleman. Tall, handsome...princely some might say. The heroine became more and more beautiful each passing day, into the attractive young woman that caught the eye of several suitors. She never went out with anyone, if you were wondering.

The both of them still meet up. Not as frequent as before but the bonds between them never slack. They still meet in secret for they knew that no one would approve of their friendship.

The girl knew that her heart had long belonged to him and her bond with him was not merely friendship to her, but something more... She never tell and secretly hoped that one day, her love would no longer be unrequited. He was all she thought about, first thing in the morning till late at night before she falls asleep.

Then, he fell in love. Not with our heroine though, but another with a beauty to match. He told her, breaking her heart as he did so. And when he left, she felt tears rolling down her cheeks, her heart ripped to pieces.

" I'll wait. Till the day you could see me." She wiped away her tears and went to bed that night with a broken heart.

Several days passed and she heard all his rants about how his date went, she smiled and pretended to be happy for him and even joked about how she thought he might never find someone.

" You're a great friend. I'm glad I met you back then." He patted her on the back, reassuring her of her place of best friend in his heart. To her, it was a reminder that she was only his best friend and nothing more.

She took a stroll that night. Wrapping her cloak around herself as she walked though the place. She heard whispers coming from the corridor round the bend. As she edged herself closer she heard parts of it.

" Do you think it's okay? For us to sneak around like that at night. If my mom knew, she would have you hanged by the tower and I would never be able to see you again" This voice was not familiar but the following one was.

" I don't care as long I can meet you, dying by the tower seems fine."

Our heroine sank to the ground with overflowing tears. She held her hand over her mouth to muffle her sobs. What have I done to deserve this? I don't think I can take another blow.

The next day, his engagement was announced. His fiancé was to stay in the manor.

On that fateful night, our heroine picked out a white dress and did her hair. She made herself look more beautiful than she usually was. She hid a dagger within the folds of her dress and went to take a little visit to her best friend's  fiancé.

She crept into the bed chamber and went to the girl's sleeping figure on the bed. As she walked pass the candles, the flames flickered as if to warn the sleeping girl of the impending danger.

" Such beauty. But too bad...you're in the way." She slapped the girl hard leaving a mark on her face. The sleeping girl awoke and found a dagger perilously near her throat. She screamed. Our heroine smiled as though it was going as she planned.

This is the part where the hero comes to the damsel's rescue...and fails.

When our hero appeared at the door, she plunged the dreaded dagger into the petrified girl's heart and pulled it out, staining the blade dark red.

He looked at the girl all clad in white. His eyes wide with shock.

"Why? I thought you were my friend..." He buried his head in his hands, shaking them.

" How does it feel? To loose someone you love so much. The feeling can't even be compared to mine. Even though my love is alive and kicking, I can never feel his love for he doesn't even notice me." She laughed and stepped towards him until she was right in front of him.

" Here. Take this. I know you'd like to kill me." She forced the bloodied blade into his hands, making the edge point at herself.

However, our hero did something totally unexpected. He dashed to the bed and pulled the dagger into himself.

" NO!" She shouted as his body went limp and he fell right beside the dead girl.

All the ruckus, woke almost the whole manor. Then after that, well she was hanged by the tower. Her body failing in the wind. The noose still hangs on that particular tower as a reminder of the girl who died with a broken heart having to see her one and only love perish before her very eyes. The girl also known as...the Ghost of Flicker Lights.
